About Ambergate Gardens

Horticulture and gardening have been part of our lives for as long as we can remember. Ambergate Gardens has been in business for 25 years. Prior to starting the nursery, Mike Heger worked in public horticulture for more than 15 years at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and Jean enjoyed vegetable gardening.

The perennials we offer are grown in Minnesota, a state known for its harsh climate. Given their northern origin, these plants are particularly suited for landscapes in similar regions. The primary goal of Ambergate Gardens is to offer a greater variety of distinctive perennials than is typically found in garden centers and box stores. Our hands-on knowledge of these plants lets us help you choose the "right plant for the right place". Mike and Jean personally select and care for the perennials. We share our hands-on knowledge and experience through teaching and writing, including Mike's informative book, Growing Perennials in Cold Climates. Unfortunately, this book is now out-of-print and no longer available. We are working towards a revised and updated edition that will hopefully be available in the not too distant future.

If you need additional information about us or the plants we offer, contact us at 952-443-2248 or 877-211-9769. Please leave a message if we are not available. During the growing season, e-mail is perhaps the best way to make an initial contact with our staff. We are located very near to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and a visit to our nursery location would be a perfect complement to your next visit there.
